22 lose their jobs as SME business moves to Cardiff

Zurich has confirmed that 22 workers in its Belfast office will lose their jobs at the end of the month as its SME business is transferred to Cardiff, The Belfast Telegraph reports

Only 12% of the business they handled was based in Northern Ireland and the rest came from other parts of the UK, a spokeswoman said.

Zurich’s Belfast office will continue to employ around 50 members of staff.

Committed to Northern Ireland

Zurich trades a huge amount of broker business in Northern Ireland and we are fully committed to staying in Belfast. We've moved SME Package business to our Cardiff office because they have an operational set-up which will allow us to handle this business faster," the spokeswoman said.

The affected staff were placed on redundancy notice in July.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
