Zurich is the sole insurer for the Carpetright building in Tottenham that was gutted by fire in Saturday’s riots.
A Zurich spokesman confirmed that the firm insured the building, but would not give an estimate of the loss.
He added that the company’s team could not get access to the site, both because it is a crime scene and because it is unsafe.
Insurance Times understands that the cover on the building back in 2009 was £5m.
Sources told Insurance Times earlier today that the current loss estimate for the Carpetright blaze is £10m.
