Survey reveals an out of touch industry

Given that insurance is all about managing risk, Backchat was surprised to learn that in a recent poll, 53% of insurers didn’t find it overly important.

In fact, if the survey is anything to go by, insurers come across as overconfident technophobes, out of touch with the current challenges to the industry.

The survey, conducted by the Chartered Management Institute, shows that years of portraying confidence in the face of adversity may have finally gone to the industry’s head – with

61% admitting skills and talent management is the key challenge, but only 35% doing anything about it.

The poll also reveals a resistance to change by insurers with only 23% stating it is important to keep abreast of technological change and only 11% thinking IT is a challenge for the industry.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
