Event tossed aside amid compensation fears
And finally, a story relating to the compensation culture, or (more correctly) the fear of a compensation culture.
In a sad indictment of present day Britain, a traditional pancake race has been called off, flattened under the weight of health and safety and insurance risk assessments that were required for it to go ahead.
The race was due to take place in Ripon, North Yorkshire.
“There is bureaucracy that goes into holding any event these days, the policing, the risk assessments, and it has a cost factor and takes a lot of time,” one of the organisers told the BBC rather sadly.
Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
