The AA has signed an affinity deal with pet specialist Thornside to sell pet cover using the AA brand from January 2006.
Thornside, part of the Capita Group, specialises in selling, designing and administrating white-labelled pet insurance products for major distributors including Argos, Homebase and broker Endsleigh.
The AA pet portfolio offers a choice of three different products for cats and dogs.
An AA spokesman said: "There is an obvious link between our household cover and pet insurance.
"We have over 600,000 household policyholders so we think the opportunities for cross-selling will make pet cover a real success."
The AA will be marketing the new products via its website and through direct mail to existing policyholders.
David Seel, managing director of Thornside, said: "We are very excited to be working with AA. They have a huge client-base and a very strong brand and we expect to be doing big volumes of business with them in the near future."
