Call Connection has a new member of staff. Her name is Susan.
She is an ideal employee because she does not take sick leave or require holidays or even a lunch break. That is because Susan is a computer-generated image displayed on a screen in reception.
Now Call Connection managing director Graeme Kalbraier has no need for a person to physically sit in the reception of his company's new centre in Ipswich.
Instead, the IT department developed Susan, which is a computer programme linked to a CCTV camera in the foyer.
An IT specialist watches the monitor and inputs a greeting whenever someone enters the building.
Gone are the days of the big boss chasing the receptionist around the desk, as Call Connection has not only got rid of the receptionist, but the desk as well.
Backchat has heard that many of the wives of the company's employees are understandably pleased with the concept.
