Broker also reviewing whether to enter employee benefits market

Martyn Holman, Brightside

Brightside’s new chief executive Martyn Holman said he was planning to break further into the online small and medium enterprise (SME) marketplace.

The broking group is also conducting a review to see whether it should branch out into employee benefits, which Holman said should be completed this month.

Speaking to Insurance Times after his first three months as chief executive, Holman said: “In the offline SME space we have got a great business. It has grown year-on-year for 10 years and continues to do so.

“More of the same is very good, but we have got several opportunities to branch out. The online environment for some of the SME products that we have got has got to be a rich seam.”

Commenting on the potential to launch into employee benefits, Holman said: “That is something we have never touched, but we have got a large base of commercial clients so we believe there may be some opportunity.”

If the review concludes that employee benefits is an area Brightside should be in, Holman said he hoped to be able to launch new initiatives in time for the new year.
