Brit Insurance has appointed Richard Gaunt as a contingency underwriter.

Gaunt joins Brit after a decade at Markel International, where he was in the same role.

In his time there, he established himself as a leading underwriter in weather photoshoot and statistical prize indemnity and developed an account worth $7.5m in premium income. He also wrote Markel's open market sports personal accident account.

Mike Sibthorpe, Brit Insurance's London market underwriting director, said: “Richard has a wealth of experience in the contingency market and we are pleased to welcome him to Brit Insurance."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
