NCI has poached Broker Network head of sales Andrew Mirfin.

The appointment of Mirfin, who has been at the Towergate-owned network for four years, is one of two account manager hires unveiled by the north-east based broker today.

Simon Berry joins from Direct Line Group, where he was client relationship manager.

Mirfin was head of sales and Countrywide at Broker Network.

With more than 20 years’ experience working for several large financial services firms including Aviva, he will focus on developing NCI’s affinity and partnerships schemes across pet, motor, breakdown and claims services.

Commenting on the appointments, NCI managing director and co-founder Neil Richards-Smith said: “Andrew and Simon’s roles are new for NCI and reflect the ambitious growth plans of the company and the investment we are making in developing new partnerships and products.

“Andrew and Simon bring a wealth of experience to NCI and a strong track records of developing new insurance partnerships and building client relationships. Their appointments are a clear signal that NCI is a serious player in the market and I am extremely pleased to welcome them to the team.”

Richards-Smith told Insurance Times in November that NCI has a £5m war chest for acquisitions that will help it to expand into small commercial lines in a bid to cut its dependence on motor.
