Welsh broker Motaquote has closed seven high street branches after increasing numbers of customers moved online and the economic downturn depressed revenues.

Seven Motaquote branches remain, and the broker made five redundancies from the closures. A Motaquote spokesman said 107 staff and all the customers had been retained.

"It’s the economic downturn, we’ve seen reduced footfall in the smaller branches," the spokesman said. "The customer is also making different choices in terms of where they want to shop, and it’s much more about online now."

Motaquote closed branches in Aberdare, Cwmbran, Ebbw Vale, Mountain Ash, Neath, Risca and Treorchy.

Motaquote is a personal and commercial lines broker. Motaquote is part of Protectagroup, which is owned by Cullum Capital Ventures
