Brokers looking for after-the-event (ATE) products have a new alternative.

B4 is a before-the-event (BTE) legal expense initiative targeted directly at high street brokers.

The brand is being promoted to brokers as a way of avoiding the risk associated with ATE policies.

It will be administered by BTE specialist Albany.

Albany chief executive Bryan Irving said: "Brokers are concerned about uncertainty.

"There's no resolution yet to the turmoil in the ATE market.

"Brokers don't want the risk of bad publicity or guilt by association if something goes wrong.

"B4 protects the broker and his client against the risks of the ATE environment."

Claims Direct, one of the biggest names associated with ATE policies, went into administrative receivership last year

The brand was revived by law firm Russell Jones & Walker in March.

B4, which will have a five-strong sales team targeting the broker market from early June, aims to sell 200,000 policies in its first year.

Irving said that the move demonstrated Albany's commitment to the BTE market.
