Hundreds of families had to flee their homes and schools and businesses had to close after a fire at a plastics and paint factory in Paignton, Devon engulfed the town in toxic smoke.

The blaze, at the Wilton Bradley plant, broke out shortly before 11pm on December 9 and burned through the night and into the next day.

Loss adjuster Cunningham Ellis & Buckle (CEB) was retained by Norwich Union to handle liability and building contents work resulting from the blaze.

A number of firefighters, police officers and local residents were treated for smoke inhalation but were later discharged.
