Marsh & McLennan has announced the appointment of Michael Cherkasky as chairman and chief executive of Marsh Inc.
Cherkasky's appointment at MMC's risk and insurance services subsidiary follows the announcement of the New York attorney general's probe into its financial affairs.
Cherkasky, formerly chief executive of Marsh Kroll, spent 16 years as a lawyer with the US criminal justice system, including time as chief of the investigations division for the New York district attorney's office.
He succeeds Ray Groves, who has served as chairman and chief executive of Marsh Inc since 2003. Groves will become a senior adviser to the company.
