Two of the best known figures in the City took time out yesterday to visit the East End of London when Lloyd's boss Nick Prettejohn and Economic Secretary to the Treasury Melanie Johnson, went to see to the 700 pupils of Bow Boys School.

The school is supported by Lloyd's Community Programme (LCP) which established a literacy scheme at the school two years ago. Forty reading volunteers visit the school every week to teach and encourage reading.

Prettejohn is himself a business mentor at another boys' school, Stepney Green, in Tower Hamlets.
