London's City University is considered one of the world's leading institutions in the fields of risk, insurance and actuarial science, according to an independent survey of published material.
City is ranked higher than many US Ivy League universities in the survey, including Harvard. Only the University of Pennsylvania was rated higher.
Dr Richard Verrall, head of City University's department of actuarial science, said: "This is a great achievement to be rated so highly for our research, and to compete successfully with top US institutions such as Harvard."
He also highlighted the contribution of Professor Steven Haberman, dean of City's school of mathematics, who is ranked ninth in the world league of individual authors.
"This clearly reflects Steven's outstanding international reputation," said Dr Verrall.
Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
