The Co-operative Insurance Society (CIS) is to close seven of its 18 regionally based general insurance claims offices, shedding 170 jobs.
CIS said today that as part of its ongoing modernisation programme customer contact centres would replace regional claims offices.
Those offices due to be closed, it said, do not have sufficient staffing levels to operate the new structure.
