CPP said it had introduced additional insurance benefits and anti-fraud measures to its card protection plan.

The restructured product will be introduced from 1 September 2004. It will see the four tiers of cover currently available consolidated into CPP Classic and CPP Plus, said the company.

CPP said the simplified offering had allowed it to introduce additional assistance and insurance benefits.

CPP business manager Jason Walsh said: “We have introduced Protective Registration through the Credit Industry Fraud Avoidance System (CIFAS) as an additional anti-fraud measure.

“The benefit works by protecting customers against fraudulent credit applications if personal documents such as a driving licence or passport have been lost or stolen.

“A preventative fraud warning is given to CIFAS that requests lenders take special care to confirm the identity of the new customer whenever new credit is requested.

“We believe this a first for the card protection market and is an associated benefit to card loss or theft.”

The product also includes extra policy coverage for up to five people replacing the single and household policies currently on offer.

The new CPP Plus product also includes increased levels of insurance cover and up to £500 of new cover for lost and stolen key assistance.
