Tenant farmers can buy insurance from DAS to cover the hefty legal bills they would face during arbitration if they dispute the rent charged by a landlord.

Plummeting farm incomes have left many tenant farmers anxious to negotiate reasonable rent levels, according to DAS.

It claims the Tenant Farmers Association (TFA) says a hardcore of landlords use the threat of costly arbitration to deter tenants from pursuing legitimate rent reviews.

"We have produced a solution to the problem which the TFA brought to us," said DAS development manager Andy Westall.

"Using our standard Commercial Legal Expenses policy as the model, we have extended cover into previously uncharted territory."

The new policy is available to all 4,000 members of the Tenant Farmers Association.
