Demand for new insurance staff rose a record 9% last month according to Reed's insurance job index.

Advertised vacancies for general insurance staff have risen 48% since the depths of the recession in December 2009, outstripping the increase in 35 other job sectors analysed each month by the Reed Job Index.

Overall the Reed Job Index increased by four points, reversing last months decline in demand for new staff.

However salaries for new jobs have stayed flat, and are 2% lower than in December 2009 for the second month running, with the Reed Salary Index standing at 98.

Martin Warnes, managing director of reed.co.uk, said::"Demand for general insurance staff has risen to their highest levels since the Reed insurance job index began 18 months ago, outstripping increases across 35 other job sectors tracked in this monthly report.

"Clearly skilled professionals are top of employer wish-lists at the moment, which has prompted the launch of a new £50k+ recruitment section on reed.co.uk to help both employers and job-seekers in this salary-bracket."
