Exposed wooden floors are causing a sharp increase in water damage related claims, says report...

The sharp rise in the number of British homes with exposed wooden floors could result in an equally sharp rise in household premiums, according to a report.

A national newspaper recently highlighted the growing number of household claims resulting from water damage to exposed wooden flooring. Whereas previously carpets and rugs would have served to absorb any water thereby limiting damage to the floorboards, exposed wooden floors would no longer have this protection.

According to one insurance source, household repair costs are rising at “an alarming rate”, with lower building standards in new houses, and an increase in the number of bathrooms, heightening the risk of more instances of water damage occurring.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
