Broker Agnew Higgins Pickering reported a 7% increase in pre-tax profits in the year ended 31 December 2004. Pre-tax profits increased to £5.07m in 2004 from £4.73m in 2003. Turnover increased from £15.72m to £17.22m in the same period.
Ropner soars 36
Ropner Insurance Services' pre-tax profits soared by 36% to £1.52m, the company reported in its accounts for the year ended 31 December 2004. Turnover increased by 5% to £5.95m in 2004 from £5.67m in the previous year.
Alston drops 9
Marine broker Alston Gaylor reported a 9% fall in pre-tax profits for the year ended 31 December 2004. Profit before tax fell to £1m in 2004 from £1.1m in 2003. Turnover increased to £4.1m.

Marine specialist Kite Warren moved into profit in 2004, reporting a pre-tax profit of £5,723 compared to a loss of £99,869 in 2003. Turnover increased to £1.2m for the year ended 31 December 2004, up 32% on the previous year.

Amlin pulled out of bidding for Chaucer having "concluded that sufficient value for its shareholders could not be created by proceeding with the transaction".
