Bob Screen, the former managing director of broker Vega Insurance Services, has been appointed as chief operating officer of Scottish broker Giles Insurance.

Screen was made redundant in March when Vega's parent Primary Group closed Vega's head office, to run the business as part of its retail broking operation.

Screen will be responsible for operational delivery of the company's strategy, including insurer relationships and marketing.

Chris Giles, chief executive of Giles, said: "This is great news for Giles Insurance, and I am delighted that Bob has agreed to join us.

"Having someone of Bob's calibre and experience on board will help us greatly with our ambitious growth plans."

Screen said: "I am looking forward to joining Chris and the team in January and can't wait to get going. The business has grown significantly in the recent past and all the building blocks are in place to continue that growth into the future."

Giles controls over £125m in premium income, following the recent announcement of its acquisition of Miller UK's retail business.

It aims double the size of its business to £250m over the next two years.

The recent deal with Miller UK follows hot on the heels of two previous acquisitions by Giles in Bradford.

The company acquired Richmond Insurance Brokers and Calvert Glover earlier in November.
