A guide to this week’s movements in the insurance industry

Broker

Towergate

Towergate London Market, part of Towergate Partnership, has announced details of three promotions.

Peter Thomas has been appointed as director of Towergate London Market.

In his new role Thomas will be responsible for raising the profile of Towergate in the London market arena as well as developing products and business opportunities with both Towergate companies and external brokers.

He has over 20 years’ experience of the insurance industry in both company and broking roles. He joined Towergate in 2003.

Tara Kelly has been promoted to broking manager and is responsible for a team of five, coordinating the broking strategy for new and renewal business within the commercial account.

Kelly joined Towergate London Market as a property broker in 2003, moving into a liability broking position on 2005. She has 10 years’ com-mercial insurance experience in the London market.

Peter Burgess has been promoted to compliance and operations manager.

In addition to his current compliance role, he will be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of London market reforms, such as electronic claims handling and accounting and settlement, supervising planned IT upgrades and the contract certainty function.

Burgess joined Towergate London Market in 2005 and has 10 years’ insurance experience, working for both brokers and company insurers.

Arthur J Gallagher

Arthur J Gallagher has appointed John Hastings-Bass as chairman of international development at Gallagher Global Risks .

Hastings-Bass previously worked for Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group for

20 years and was a director from 1996 until 2006.

Arthur J Gallagher has also announced that Sarah Dalgarno, chief risk officer has been appointed to the company’s board and Alissa Pfitzner, chief counsel, has been named company secretary.

Insurer

Liberty

Liberty International Underwriters has recruited Ray Miller as vice president of marine, energy and construction.

Miller will be responsible for development and expansion of the energy team covering Europe, Middle East, Africa, and South America.

He brings more than 40 years’ underwriting experience in the London market.

Liberty has also appointed Sean Gilborson as regional underwriter for professional indemnity (PI).

Gilberson will assume responsibility for developing the regional PI account in the South, the Midlands and Wales.

He joins Liberty from HLI (UK) where he was an account executive.

DAS

Andy Westall has been named as head of corporate partnerships at DAS Legal.

Westall has over 21 years’ experience within the legal expenses insurance sector, having joined DAS in 1986.

Groupama

Groupama Healthcare has appointed Simon Young as key account manager.

Young will be responsible for delivering a personal service to Groupama’s key healthcare brokers and intermediaries.

He joins Groupama Healthcare from Legal and General Healthcare where he was business development manager.

MMA

MMA Insurance has appointed Jason Beach as its new key account manager.

Beach will be responsible for supporting a number of MMA’s key strategic intermediary partners.

Beach joins MMA from Norwich Union where he held a number of development, e-trading, underwriting and claims positions over a 14-year period with the insurer.

Legal

Fletchers

Fletchers Solicitors has appointed Tracy Bond to head a new inception team.

She will be based at Fletcher’s Southport head office.

Other

UKDN

UK Drainage Network (UKDN) has appointed Paul Wozencroft to the new position of supply chain director.

Wozencroft streamlined operations through UKDN’s external and internal supply chain.

He will be based at the company’s central office in Solihull, West Midlands, and will work closely with other directors to introduce improvements throughout the supply chain.

Quadrant

Quadrant Risk Management (International) has appointed Jill Loveless to head its insurance division.

Loveless has over 20 years’ operational experience in insurance.
