The Government has released Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 25: Development and Flood Risk.

PPS25 sets out the Government's policy on flood risk in England. It details the importance of a risk-based approach and outlines the various responsibilities of owners/developers, regional planning bodies, local planning authorities and the Environment Agency.

In Insurance Times' latest roundtable, the Envrironment Agency's David Murphy expressed the "hope that the new government Planning Policy Statement on development and flood risk will start to strengthen some of the spatial planning system to avoid this flood risk."

Murphy added: "With the [Environment Agency's] statutory consultee status and the introduction of PPS25, we are able to ensure that the planning authorities and the developers are undertaking flood risk assessments associated with their developments."

A full rundown of the roundtable will be published in next week's Insurance Times.
