Norwich Union (NU) welcomed government plans to spend an extra £1.3bn on housing over the next three years.

NU said it was "optimistic" about its household property and contents business after the government announced the extra housing funding in this week's spending review.

"Building new houses expands our [property and contents] market," an NU spokesman said.

He added that it depended on the location of new housing.
