HCC Insurance Holdings has selected J. Robert Dickerson as chairman and lead independent director for its board.
Dickerson, 65, a retired tax attorney, has served on the insurer's board since 1981.
He is currently chairman of the compensation committee and a member of the nominating and governance committee.
The company said Dickerson's appointment is part of the board's decision to separate the roles of chairman and chief executive.
