Swiftcover saw 250% rise in home claims yesterday

The number of home insurance claims spiked yesterday due to the storms buffeting much of the UK.

Swiftcover alone saw a 250% increase in home insurance claims from their average, according to Myfinances.

The insurer first saw an influx of claims from Scotland and northern England, then increasing numbers of claims from the midlands and southern England.

Swiftcover estimated the average cost of a claim was almost £1,000 and added that most claims were for water damage and damage to conservatories and roofs.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
