Pet insurer Pet Protect is urging owners to take out insurance against vet bills - which are now estimated by Mintel and RSPCA research to cost 40% of the total cost of keeping a pet.
As a nation of pet lovers, we will spend £1.1bn on vet bills this year. Yet Pet Protect says only 10% of owners take out insurance for these costs.
Pet Protect is offering the first month's premium free on its 'Lifelong' range for a limited period.
