Brokers can face some pretty strange requests, particularly during the festive season,

A new survey by premium finance provider RBS Finsure reveals some of the weird and wonderful Christmas requests made to brokers.

One policyholder wanted to insure himself when he was delivered in a large box to his girlfriend. He planned to jump out armed with an engagement ring.

And an unusual, but festive, claim caught Backchat’s attention – a claim for a Christmas tree fire caused by a pet dog urinating on the tree’s lights.

Backchat’s personal favourite was the request to insure a jewel-encrusted sex-aid that a client purchased for his wife from Holland and was valued in excess of £5,000.

It is believed the jewels are now part of a more traditional item.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
