Legal & General has reported a £13m drop in general insurance profits for the six months up to June 2005.
Operating profit on continuing operations slumped to £4m from £17m for the same period last year.
The company blamed a reduced operating profit of £2m (£11m last year) from the household account on higher bad weather claims.
It said other factors responsible for the drop were a smaller release of reserves from the mortgage indemnity book and a loss on its motor account.
However, gross written premiums from continuing operations grew by 8% to £170m due to well-performing household and healthcare business lines.
