Sax Riley announced at a seminar today that the Lloyd's business in Spain now tops €100m (£60m).

At the first ever Lloyd's seminar in Spain, Riley said premium income from the region had soared from €58m (£35m) to €110m (£67m). He attributed the rise to the retraction in market capacity of Spanish and foreign carriers, an increased demand for specialist cover, and rising rates.

He said: "Despite the emergence of overseas markets, Europe remains key to Lloyd's strategic thinking. The opening of a registered office in Spain is an important part of that strategy."
