The Lloyd's Market Association (LMA) and Xchanging Ins-Sure Services (XIS) said today that they expect electronic claims file (ECF) initiative to be delivered by April 2006.

Today the LMA announced the completion of phase one of the five phases development plan.

The £3m ECF project is expected to deliver the infrastructure to handle all claims electronically in the Lloyd's market.

The LMA said the electronic document management systems would enable underwriters to view claims information at the same time as underwriters.

It is hoped that the system will speed up the claims handling process by eliminating the need for brokers to see each underwriter in turn, offering insurers more control over the workflow and management of claims files while supporting improvements to market claims payments standards.
