More staff could follow Lonmar's casualty boss to rival

Former Lonmar Global Risks director Tom Payne is believed to be heading for Gallagher, Insurance Times understands.

A number of staff are expected to follow Payne out the door to Gallagher, including members of the professional indemnity team and one senior divisional manager.

Casualty head Payne resigned from the board earlier this week and his arrival at Gallagher will be a boost before the expected completion of the Heath Lambert deal.

Although the period of exclusivity has run out with Heath Lambert, lawyers are still working on the deal.

For Lonmar, the staff departures will be a blow for the company, having lost a legal battle with Tysers. Lonmar is facing £1m to cover court costs.

Lonmar ended the employment of marine head Andrew Harding in October last year following disciplinary action.

The management buyout of Lonmar from wholesaler SBJ Global Risks was headed up by chief executive Simon Rice and chief operating officer Duncan Vinten in 2009.

A Lonmar spokesman confirmed that Payne had resigned from the board, but added that there had been no more resignations.
