Worries over the number of motorbikes being written off has led the Motor Vehicle Repairer's Association (MVRA) to introduce specialist teams to improve the service.

The 60-strong network is already working with AXA, Fortis, NIG, RAC, Equity Red Star and Carole Nash and is currently talking to other insurers and brokers.

MVRA managing director Mike Monaghan said there had been a gap in the market for a dedicated motorcycle repair service that included access to specialist bike engineers.

All MVRA motorcycle engineers are bike specialists with a depth of knowledge not always available within insurance companies.

The MVRA said early indications showed cost savings on most repair jobs, together with more repairs and fewer write-offs.
