Unfortunate lettering for proposed merged actuaries’ body

After the Scots and English actuary groups' merger, future actuaries will be known as fellows of the Chartered Actuarial Profession or FCAPs, which the Times points out is an unfortunate acronym “if you pronounce it at speed”.

“You might find that amusing, but some of us really don’t,” says one actuary.

A spokesman for the professional body admits: “I’ve heard a few people saying that. It’s not something we’ve been rushed into. It’s a big change and there will be people who are unhappy about it.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
