’His work establishing the class has created a strong platform for future growth,’ says group chief underwriting officer
Apollo has announced that Matt Larke will succeed Tim Cook as head of construction following Cook’s retirement.

Joining Apollo in 2022, Cook had a short-term intention to commence writing construction physical damage.
Since then, he has laid foundations for the class and built broker relationships. He retired on 31 December 2025.
As part of a planned succession, Larke assumed the role of class leader of construction physical damage in April 2025. He has already taken on day-to-day leadership.
Larke first joined Apollo in 2023 as its executive underwriter of construction. The construction team continues to grow, including the appointment of Laura Sylvester in July 2025.
‘Clear plan’
Commenting on Cook’s departure, James Slaughter, group chief underwriting officer, said: “Cook has brought deep technical expertise and thoughtful leadership to Apollo’s construction business.
