’I’m very much looking forward to working on the group strategy and helping support the next phase of its development,’ says appointee

Ardonagh has appointed Chris Lay as an operating partner at Ardonagh Capital Partners.

Lay, who most recently served as chief executive at Marsh UK, will work on group strategy and deploy his experience across the Ardonagh portfolio of companies.

Lay said: “Over the past nine years, Ardonagh has built a formidable portfolio on the international stage, with talented teams, strong businesses and an entrepreneurial culture.

”I’m very much looking forward to working on the group strategy and helping support the next phase of its development.”

Experience

Lay, who has 40 years of industry experience, became chief executive at Marsh UK in 2018. However, in November 2025, it was announced he would retire from the firm in Q1 2026.

He currently serves as chair of the London Market Group and Chair of Insurance United Against Dementia. He is also a non-executive director of Convex Group.

Ardonagh chief executive David Ross said: “Lay is one of the most recognisable and respected figures in our market. At our breadth and scale, rarely can you add someone that can help make the whole organisation better.

“His vast experience will be invaluable as we look to navigate this fascinating time in the cycle of our industry.”
