Aviva senior underwriter Matt Snow talks to Insurance Times about his strong performance in this year’s Fantasy Football league

Gameweek 23 of the Premier League kicks off tomorrow (January 24) at 12.30, as high-flying promoted side Sunderland visit struggling prem stalwarts West Ham.

The Insurance Times Fantasy Football League has also settled into that familiar second half of the season rythm, with many players – including many Insurance Times colleagues – pretending that they never cared about their standings, even though they had a lot to say at the start of the season.

One player that is not struggling, however, is Aviva’s Matt Snow, who goes into gameweek 23 in seventh place on 1,343 points – 24 points behind Aviva colleague Archie Taylor-Salmon and 23 behind Allianz’ Steve Fisher.

1. Congratulations on being in the top 10 for game week 22, how do you rate your chances of climbing the table further?

Thanks! Its nice to be in the top 10. Hopefully, I can keep climbing the table but I’m going to need to make some shrewd transfers and have a bit of luck on my side.

2. What are the key decisions to make ahead of game week 23?

I think Haaland as captain is a safe option ahead of Wolves at home.

Arsenal have a tough fixture against Manchester United and I’m toying with the idea of transferring out Saka, potentially for Palmer given Chelsea’s next run of fixtures.

Palace appear to have a lot of issues with recent comments from the manager adding to the uncertainty, so if had any Palace players in my team I would consider moving them on.

3. Who would you call out as an under-rated player for everyone’s Fantasy squad?

Malik Thiaw at Newcastle, a player I have only recently added to my squad, is well priced and has picked up a lot of points over the season.

I would also add Jarrod Bowen into the mix. Despite West Ham’s struggles this season, his points return is excellent.

4. Who or what would you like to call out in the insurance industry?

I recently heard of the Brew Monday initiative from the Samaritans, which was created in response to claims that the third Monday of January, known as “Blue Monday”, is the most depressing day of year.

It doesn’t have to be Brew Monday, or any Monday or day of the week, but it’s a nice reminder to reach out to friends, family and colleagues and have a cuppa with the people you care about.
