Howden Consumer and Local Commercial divisional director Alexander Webb talks to Insurance Times about his strong performance in this year’s Fantasy Football league
We are creeping into the last few games of the season, with fewer than 10 game weeks left before the Premier League concludes in May.

Despite there being not much time left, this also means that insurance industry aficionados competing in the Insurance Times Fantasy Football League have an opportunity to leap up the table which, especially at the top, is looking congested.
Just one good game week could see lots of movement.
There is now a bit of a break in fixtures as the FA Cup fifth round kicks off this weekend, but the next game week begins on 14 March with Bournemouth’s visit to Burnley.
Sitting pretty at the top of the league right now is Howden Consumer and Local Commercial divisional director, Alexander Webb.
Webb is on 1,816 points, just three above Allianz Commercial’s Darragh Kennedy and 12 above Aviva’s Matt Snow.
Insurance Times sat down with the Howden man to discuss his leading position in the league.
1. Congratulations on being in the top spot for game week 29, how do you rate your chances of winning the league?
Thanks! It feels great to hit the top spot for game week 29 and it definitely gives me some momentum going into the next run of fixtures.
I’d say my chances of staying near the top are pretty solid as long as I stay consistent and make smart decisions with transfers and captain picks.
The table is tight, so every point matters, but I’m feeling confident that with a bit of form and maybe a touch of luck, there’s still room to push on. I’ll keep the pressure on and see how far I can go!
2. What are the key decisions to make ahead of game week 30?
Key decisions for game week 30 hinge not only on immediate form and fixtures, but also on planning for the next three to four rounds.

With just one free transfer each week, managers must navigate upcoming doubles and potential blanks carefully. Many squads are stacked with three Arsenal and three Manchester City players, yet both sides miss out in Game Week 31 – making chip strategy, particularly the Free Hit for those who still hold it, increasingly crucial.
I’m also keeping a close eye on Erling Haaland’s fitness and form, as his availability continues to shape the captaincy conversation
3. Who would you call out as an under-rated player for everyone’s Fantasy squad?
I picked up Nico O’Reilly at the very start of the season, when he was one of Fantasy Football’s most overlooked gems.
But as his performances have improved, so has his ownership – diluting the early advantage for those of us who backed him from the outset.
That’s the constant challenge in FPL – once a breakout star becomes mainstream, the edge disappears.
Looking ahead, Anton Stach at Leeds for £4.7 million and Elliot Anderson at Nottingham Forest for £5.4 million now offer excellent value. Both remain underappreciated options capable of delivering strong returns without breaking the budget.
4. Who or what would you like to call out in the insurance industry?
I’d like to call out the positive shift in the insurance industry toward clearer customer education and stronger support for vulnerable clients.
More organisations are simplifying products, improving accessibility and prioritising genuine, empathetic conversations.
I’d also recognise those driving innovation – creating better digital journeys while still protecting the human touch that builds trust.
And, finally, the industry’s commitment to charity and community work deserves real credit – many teams go above and beyond to support local causes and make a wider social impact.
