He took up the role in March 2025
Stephen Smith has left Gallagher just over a year after taking up a new role with the broker.

Smith was appointed managing director of broking and placement for its UK and Ireland retail division in March 2025.
He was responsible for leading the retail broking strategy, as well as overseeing the placement of insurance on behalf of clients across 500 markets.
However, in a statement sent to Insurance Times this morning (8 July 2026), Gallagher said Smith had left the business.
”We wish him all the best,” it added.
Next steps
As a result of his departure, chief broking officer Simon Collings has changed his role to focus on broking and placement for the UK and Ireland retail business given its size and scale.
