’Our new temporary taxi insurance changes the game,’ says managing director

GoShorty has launched a temporary taxi insurance product as it continues its expansion into specialist motor insurance lines.

The new proposition, which launched on 30 July, provides short-term hire and reward cover for taxi and private hire drivers for periods of seven, 14, 21 or 28 days.

The launch marks the latest phase of GoShorty’s expansion into specialist motor sectors, following the introduction of temporary motorhome insurance in May and temporary courier insurance in June.

According to Department for Transport figures, there are more than 313,000 licensed taxi and private hire vehicles operating in England.

GoShorty said the new product is designed to provide an alternative to traditional annual insurance arrangements, giving drivers access to shorter-term cover options.

The policy includes authorisation for both private hire and public hire operations, allowing drivers to undertake courier work alongside passenger transport activities.

Phil Evans, managing director at GoShorty, said: “The traditional 12-month taxi insurance model simply no longer aligns with how professional drivers want to manage their businesses today.

”Whether someone is testing the waters of the trade to see if the lifestyle fits, picking up extra shifts during high-earning seasonal peaks like Christmas, or handling part-time hours around another job, forcing them into a rigid annual policy creates a massive financial barrier.

”Our new temporary taxi insurance changes the game. It is completely on-demand, requires absolutely no restrictive black boxes or camera installations and delivers full legal cover in under two minutes without impacting a driver’s personal no claims bonus.

”Professional drivers often face soaring overheads with annual premiums running into thousands of pounds, but this pay-as-you-go model puts the control back in their hands.“

Temporary impound release

Alongside the taxi launch, GoShorty has introduced a named driver option across its temporary impound release insurance products for cars and vans.

The enhancement allows policyholders to add a named driver where they are unable to collect a seized vehicle themselves.

GoShorty said the update is intended to help motorists avoid additional storage charges while ensuring vehicles can be collected legally.

Evans said: “We know that having a vehicle seized is an incredibly stressful experience, which is frequently made worse by rigid recovery rules.

“Both of these developments represent our core mission, giving UK drivers flexible, common-sense products that fit modern lifestyles.”
