The group now includes 200 members

The Hiscox Action Group has appointed London-based law firm Mishcon de Reya as its lead counsel to represent members in its business interruption (BI) claims dispute.

The group is also in talks with its litigation funder to underwrite its entire legal costs.

Richard Leedham, partner at Mishcon de Reya, said: “We are very excited to be involved in this claim and have been very surprised by Hiscox’s reaction to date.

”Our instructions are to pursue all claims as vigorously as possible to prevent hundreds of good British companies from being driven out of business.”

Steering group member at Hiscox Action Group Mark Killick, also creative director of film company Media Zoo, added: “Hiscox thought they could get away without paying but that is not going to happen. We have appointed top legal counsel, we will be fully funded and we are going to force Hiscox to do the right thing and honour its obligations.”

The Hiscox Action Group now includes over 200 members who believe that they have been wrongly denied business interruption claim pay outs due to their business premises being shut to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.
