Market intelligence platform will ‘add a new dimension to the analysis’ by providing greater insight on broker performance, says co-founder

Insurance Times is thrilled to confirm that it has secured a new data partner for its annual, exclusive Top 50 Brokers report, with market intelligence and benchmarking platform Insurance DataLab (IDL) now on board for the 2026 edition and beyond.

IDL, which has been providing the underlying data for Insurance Times’ annual Top 50 Insurers report since 2021, collates up to date market intelligence on the performance of insurers, Lloyd’s syndicates, MGAs and broking businesses – featuring more than 1,000 insurance companies in total on its proprietary platform.

Its data spans hundreds of thousands of data points that cover £100bn in annual gross written premium (GWP).

Insurance Times’ Top 50 Brokers report, which is typically published in December each year, is an annual ranking of the largest brokers in UK general insurance (UKGI), primarily based on revenue from UK operations.

Alongside providing a financial list of UKGI brokers from big to small, the report also includes deep dive data analysis features, topical broker related articles and company profiles for each broker in the ranking – this summary includes details of firms’ leadership and business strategy, for example.

In line with securing a new data partner, Insurance Times will be unveiling a new and improved version of its Top 50 Brokers report this year, with IDL data and analysis offering new areas of exploration thanks to its own benchmarking reports, expanding the parameters of what has traditionally been included in past editions.

Providing ‘an even richer picture’

Speaking on the partnership, Insurance Times content director Katie Scott said: “Insurance DataLab is a fantastic business that takes the integrity and analysis of its collated data incredibly seriously. Its thoroughness, accuracy and attention to detail make Insurance DataLab the idyllic partner for our broker focused report.

“We have been working with Insurance DataLab for five years now on Insurance Times’ Top 50 Insurers report and have been consistently impressed with how the business delivers and collaborates.

“The firm is a joy to work with and I very much look forward to extending our partnership to cover the Top 50 Brokers report this year and into the future.”

Dan King, co-founder at IDL, added: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Insurance Times on one of the industry’s most established and respected reports. The Top 50 Brokers report has always provided an important benchmark for the UK broking market and, by combining annual revenue data with our unique financial performance ratings, we can add a new dimension to the analysis.

“For the first time, the report won’t just show who the biggest brokers are, but also provide insight into how they are performing – looking at growth, profitability and productivity – as well as highlight some of the fastest growing businesses in the market for an even richer picture of the strength and performance of the UK broking sector.”
