The opportunity will only be open to students who have been invited by Stem Learning

Broker trade body the London and International Insurance Brokers Association (Liiba) will be collaborating with Marsh to offer over 40 students the opportunity to gain insight into the insurance industry during its second upcoming Stem event.

Liiba’s Stem Insurance Insight Week commences on 24 October 2022 and will be open to pupils aged 14 to 18 who have been invited to attend by national body Stem Learning – the UK’s largest provider of education and career support in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Throughout the week, participants will be coached by a variety of professionals from across the sector – including consultants, actuaries and technology experts.

Pupils will be able to learn about how the insurance industry can drive societal change through helping mitigate sustainable risks, for example.

As part of the event, pupils will be asked to put their knowledge to the test through a team project, which they will present to a fictitious client panel at the end of the week.

Liiba associate director Jacqueline Girow said: “Liiba is really proud to be offering our Stem Insurance Insight Week for the second time.

“We look forward to welcoming a whole host of students from across the UK, helping to continue to drive forward our diversity and inclusion efforts.

“Amidst a rapidly changing risk environment, it’s important we open up the insurance industry to young people and highlight the opportunities for them to apply their Stem knowledge.”

‘Inspiring the next generation’

Students attending the event will receive a certificate of achievement and a personal letter from Liiba chief executive Christopher Croft.

Attendees will also receive follow-up support.

Nicola Hughes, senior assistant general counsel at Marsh, added: “Marsh is thrilled to support this event aimed at inspiring the next generation, regardless of background, to join our vibrant insurance industry.

“With young people increasingly focused on making a positive impact on the world around them, we also hope the event can showcase the role insurance can play in advancing the ESG agenda.”

The London and International Insurance Brokers’ Association (Liiba) represents the interests of Lloyd’s insurance and reinsurance brokers operating in the London and international markets.
