’Manchester is one of the leading destinations for investment and economic growth in the UK, reflecting a broader trend of capital flowing beyond London and the south east,’ says global real estate practice leader at Lockton

Lockton has launched a regional real estate offering in Manchester as it looks to strengthen its insurance and risk advisory presence across the north west.

The broker said the new proposition would provide specialist insurance and risk advice to clients facing a range of challenges, including construction risks, regulatory changes, environmental exposures and liability issues.

It comes amid significant investment and regeneration activity in Manchester, including the redevelopment of Old Trafford and the delivery of thousands of new homes.

The broker said strong population growth, a diversified economy and continued demand within the build-to-rent sector had helped make the city an increasingly important hub for real estate investment.

Ben Warman, global real estate practice leader at Lockton, said: “Manchester is one of the leading destinations for investment and economic growth in the UK, reflecting a broader trend of capital flowing beyond London and the south east.

“Establishing a dedicated presence in the city enables us to deepen our relationships across the north west, providing clients with specialist insurance and risk advice informed by local market knowledge.”

New appointment

The broker has appointed Bob Birtwell as client leader and senior vice president to lead the specialist proposition from its Manchester office.

Birtwell joins Lockton with experience spanning insurance broking, business development and the real estate sector.

His career has included senior roles at Chubb, Aspen and Axa, most recently serving as head of wholesale business development at Howden.

Birtwell said: “I’m delighted to be joining Lockton at such a pivotal moment for our real estate offering in the North West.

“Having spent my career working closely with clients and developers here, I understand both the opportunities and the risk complexities they face.”
