Policyholders will be able to claim two weeks of free cover when they renew

Zego is offering 14 days free insurance for those that have been forced to self-isolate to alleviate the financial strain felt by an of its policyholders that have zero income during this period.

The insurtech specialises flexible cover to gig economy workers like Deliveroo and Uber.

It will allow policyholders that have fallen ill or suspect they have Covid-19 to claim up to two weeks of free cover when they renew their policy.

Sten Saar, chief executive and co-founder of Zego, said the business was founded ”to provide opportunity through flexible insurance and fair pricing.

”In these uncertain times, we will be doing everything we can to ensure customers continue to feel those benefits and are not weighed down by fixed costs if they are unable to work.

“We will keep trying to build solutions to make our customers’ lives easier and are working hard as a team to meet new challenges as they arise.

”This job is being made much easier by our partners, including La Parisienne Assurances, who have been incredibly responsive and helpful during this process.”

It follows the continuing situation with Covid-19 and the role of delivery workers during a time where people are being told to self-isolate leading to an increased demand on this sector as the UK gradually locks down.

The government announced that all restaurants and pubs would be permitted to operate as takeaways, enabling them to keep operations going by delivering food to customers.

Zego was founded in 2016, it raised $42m in a series B fundraising last summer and gained its own insurance licence in November, enabling it to build and sell its own policies.
