A study has revealed that smaller brokers are missing out on the most promising staff because larger companies offer superior benefits.

Two out of three small business bosses think that benefits, and not salary, affect a company's ability to recruit, according to research carried out by Norwich Union Healthcare (NUH).

The research also shows that a third of small businesses do not offer any benefits at all and only a third offer benefits to all staff.

NUH believes that its medical cash plans offer an affordable way for smaller brokers and other businesses to offer employee benefits to help redress this imbalance.

For a premium of £10 per month NUH's policy includes: £55 towards dental treatment per year, up to £200 per year towards physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic homeopathy and acupuncture and £25 per night for an in-patient hospital stay.
