Having worked for solicitors for many years I was looking for a change in direction and the appeal of AMG was its energy and its focus on teamwork and the achievement of objectives

I joined the company in October 2003 as a secretary.

On completion of my three-month review I felt a valued member of the team. I could voice my opinions and be listened to. I could also see opportunities for my personal development.

The speed of my personal/professional development and range of opportunities has been breath-taking. I was seconded to Grenada, as part of the AMG International Catastrophe Response. This really took me out of my comfort zone and brought an increase in confidence.

On my return, I was offered a three-month secondment to the role of regional office co-ordinator (ROC), which became permanent after two months. During this time I received coaching from my manager and a previous ROC.

With company support I am working towards the European Computing Driving Licence (ECDL) and a management National Vocational Qualification (NVQ).

AMG is partnered with Asset Training to deliver NVQ programmes and a number of my team have taken part. The management programme has opened my eyes to the breadth of knowledge and skills a manager requires. I have also taken on a mentoring role to other ROCs.

The AMG approach to training includes formal courses, internal coaching, mentoring, secondment and support with professional qualifications. The company has clearly defined standards which all staff must meet within their given roles. Performance is measured to ensure we are progressing as individuals and as a business as a whole.
