ABI head of general insurance John Parker is to leave his post in August to take up a role at the Environment Agency.

Parker will work on national prioritisation of flood defence spending, said the ABI.

ABI director general Mary Francis said: “It is sad for the ABI that John is moving on after ten years. But it is welcome news for everyone in the industry that his immediate next step will be working with the Environment Agency on flood defence spending.

“John has played a key role in securing the government's commitment to increased spending on flood defences, so this is a very appropriate next step. We will continue to work closely with John and we wish him the very best for his future.”

No replacement has yet been secured for Parker. The ABI said it would be advertising shortly for a new head of general insurance.
