Lloyd's insurer Alleghany Underwriting has teamed up with Australian insurer Sportscover to offer the latter's personal accident products in the UK.

Sportscover has launched a UK operation with capacity provided by Alleghany Underwriting syndicate 376 to provide personal accident cover to amateur sports players.

In addition to the standard package of cover – death, permanent total disablement and temporary total disablement – Sportscover also includes medical benefits, such as the cost of physiotherapy, chiropractic or dental work, and loss of income.

Sportscover's website allows policyholders and brokers to check progress on individual claims. It also provides an “injury calculator” to tell users their percentage chance of injury in their chosen sport, based on sport, fitness level, age and sex.

Sportscover has been in business for over 15 years and is Australia's leading sports insurer and main insurer of cricket clubs. The insurer also offers sports contingency products such as Hole-in-One, Half Court Basketball and Soccer Super Kicks.
